Deciding I’ve had enough, Todd and Marta walk me back to the gym to pick up my bag from the locker. This is fine with me. I’m still trying to figure out where I will go to try to locate the general. It could be simple, not quite like I’m going to just go up and ask someone. But there’s a directory, and with access to the COM, I might be able to find him that way. After that, it would just be the matter of how I might find out if he has Travis tucked away somewhere.

Marta lets go Todd’s hand and grasps my shoulder before I head into the locker room. She says, “Honey, we could get you something to eat. I have time.”

She looks at Todd. I look at Todd also. I put my hand in my pocket where there are two more of the nutria-sup bars. Then I say, “That’s OK, I’m fine. You probably have better things to be doing.”

Marta says, “If you’re sure, then.”

Halfway concealed by the wall, I wave a hand. I say, “Yeah, sure. I’m great.”
